Laying the Foundation - Day One

Today begins our 10-week study of the book Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free. Each Monday, I am going to post what pages you should read each day and the questions to along with that day's reading. These questions are in the companion guide, if you have it. If not, don't worry, but I would encourage you have a journal so you can record your answers to the questions. Again, I would encourage you to post your comments during the week.

Day One - Pgs 15-23
Realize
1. Read John 10:10. As you think about your life, would you say you are experiencing the abundant life Jesus came to give? Or do you find yourself just existing, coping, surviving, or struggling along? Explain.

Reflect
2. Look at the list of words on pg. 16. List any of the words that describe your current season of life. (If you are not currently dealing with any of the feelings but know someone who is, describe how you think she is feeling. You can use this study to lean how to help her and others who are stuggling.)
3. Look at the list of words on pg. 18. Write the words that you would like to describe your life.
4. Read John 8:31-36. What do you think Jesus meant when He talked about being free? How do you know He did not mean being free to do anything we want to do?
5. Read Galatians 5:1 and John 14:6. What (Who) is the Truth that sets us free?

Respond
6. The young woman whose story began on pg 21 said she had "given up hope" that she could ever be completely free from the moral habit that had kept her in bondage for years. Is there any area of your life where you have given up hope that you can ever be free?
7. In what ways would you like your life to change as a result of this study?

I pray as we do this study together that we will all experience growth. I pray that God will show us where we are in bondage and reveal to us any lives we may have believed that are holding us there. I pray that God will show us the Truth that we need to know so we call be truly free.

Because this post can be really long if I post the questions for each day on Monday, I'm going to post everyday. So, tomorrow I'll post that day's pages and questions. If you find there is a better way to do this, please let me know. I'm up for any suggestions. Also, don't forget, Wednesdays post will also include a few Bible trivia questions.

I’m going to be totally honest with everyone. Because I have never heard of or read this book, until a few months ago, I was putting it off. I chose Esther to begin our online Bible study because I was comfortable with her story. I’ve learned something just reading the introduction of this new study. God didn’t give me the desire a few monts ago to want to do this lesson because He knew I personally didn’t need it then…I need it now!

My family is currently going through a situation that seems hopeless to me. I didn't want to start taking prayer requests on this blog because I didn't want it to become a "gossip session", but I'm asking each of you to remember my family this month. Just pray that God will give us the wisdom to know what to do and to make the right decisions.
