Opening Your Eyes - pgs 32-37
Realize
1. Read Genesis 2:15-17 and 3:1-13. What seemingly good think did Satan offer to Even? Why did she think it was a good offer?
Reflect
2. Make a list of the primary sources of input you have coming into you life (e.g., movies, books, certain friends, a counselor).
3. How careful are you about evaluating that input and seeking to discern Truth from error. Which statement below best describes you?
*I have been heavily influenced by the culture and other "voices" around me and don't generally stop to evaluate what I hear and see in light of God's Word. I am not very discerning when it comes to Truth and error. (If this is really true of you, chances are you have been deceived and may not even realize that it describe you!)
* I am careful in some areas but not in others. I need to grow in spiritual discernment.
* I evaluate the things I hear and see through the grid of God's Word and carefully consider the consequences when tempted with wrong choices. (According to Hebrews 5:14, the ability to discern between good and evil is a mark of spiritual maturity.)
4. Describe a time when you made a wrong choice without stopping to consider the cost and the consequences.
5. Identify the lie that Satan used to lead you to believe that you (or others) would not be affected by the sin.
6. What truth from God's Word can you now cite that would have helped you walk away from Satan's lie?
Respond
7. Ask God to help you grow in your ability to discern good from evil and to make godly choices. Ask Him to show you if there is any area of your life where you are currently being deceived by input that is contrary to the Word of God.
Prayer for the day
Father, open my eyes so that I will not be deceived by Satan's lies. Sometimes a course of action seems right when I don't stop to think about Your Truth or about the consequences that could result. Teach me to consider my choices in light of Your Word. Amen.
Okay, here are the trivia questions for this week. They are about children. Please post your answers, even if someone else already has.
1. What judge had 70 sons?
2. Who were the first twins mentioned in the Bible?
3. Who was told she had a daughter-in-law who treated her better than seven sons could?
I will post the answers on Friday. Have fun!

On page 38 (in my book) she talks about being careful about what our children hear and see and how that sensitizes them to sin and makes them more ready to hear God. We need to do that, yet it really struck me that many adults don't follow that same principal. We won't let our kids listen to rock, rap, or contemporary music, yet we do. Our excuse? We'll I'm an adult and I know how to handle it. We are being deceived by Satan. We can't handle it. Anything that goes contrary to God's Word moves us that much farther from him. We do that with children so that they will come to know God at an early age. We monitor (or should monitor) what they watch, what they listen to, the friends they hang out with, the people they associate with, the books they read, the places they go, and the list could go on. Why don't we as adults do that to ourselves? Just because we're adults, doesn't mean that Satan can't deceive us and lead us away from God.
I think I have the first twins- It's Jacob and Esau. I'm still working on the other questions. I think the 70 sons one is Gideon but I'm still looking for the 3rd one.
